Baltimore is finally on the list of U.S. casino cities. Last week, on August 26, the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore officially opened on the city’s south side. More than 15,000 guests attended the grand opening ceremony. Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake were among the dignitaries present at the event.
The $442 million entertainment complex is located along Russell Street. It stands two stories tall and offers 335,000 square feet of space. With its more than 2,500 slots, 100 table games, World Series of Poker room and signature restaurants from celebrity chefs Guy Fieri, Aaron Sanchez and John Besh, Horseshoe Baltimore is expected to draw visitors from across the region, fuel tourism and improve the city’s economy.
The casino has already had an important economic impact on the city. The project has created about 2,000 construction jobs and 1,700 full time jobs. And more than half of Horseshoe Baltimore’s 1,700 employees come from the greater Baltimore area.
Horseshoe Baltimore is the fourth casino opened by Caesars Entertainment in partnership with Rock Gaming LLC. The joint venture previously opened the Horseshoe Casino Cleveland in 2012, and the Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati and ThistleDown Racino in 2013. The three facilities are all located in Ohio.
CBAC Borrower, LLC, a consortium indirectly owned and controlled by Caesars Growth Partners, LLC, a joint venture between Caesars Entertainment Corporation and Caesars Acquisition Company, developed the Horseshoe Baltimore. The casino is managed by Caesars Entertainment.
“We are proud to open a gaming-entertainment resort that embodies the city-integrated concept, which complements features of the surrounding area and other local businesses and attractions to create an experience that is unique to this location,” Gary Loveman, chairman, chief executive officer and president of Caesars Entertainment, said in a press statement. “The Total Rewards network and World Series of Poker position Horseshoe Casino Baltimore to serve as the region’s premier gaming destination and a catalyst for economic development. We are confident our guests will respond just as enthusiastically to this offering as we are to bring them the experience.”
