Developer Meta Housing Corporation recently finished work on its latest housing community in the southern L.A. city of Compton. The $20.3 million project was developed using a number of green features, and the construction process also included some changes to the area.
Located at 302 N. Tamarind Ave. in Compton, the community offers 75 units of affordable housing with close proximity to public transportation. The construction process included adding a number of capital improvements to pedestrian access to the nearby Metro Blue Line light rail and bus station. According to Meta Housing Corporation President Kasey Burke, the development “transformed a blighted, underutilized vacant lot into 75 high-quality affordable apartment units”. The community amenity package includes a large community room, outdoor living room and fountain, as well as a barbecue area.
Built as a Green Point Rated project, Metro @ Compton Senior Apartments uses a number of eco-friendly features that help the community achieve a number of energy goals. Solar power and a photovoltaic system used in heating water and generating electricity, as well as a number of water efficient fixtures, have been implemented at the property, while gray water will be saved at the site, and used in landscaping.
Working from a design provided by Y&A Architects, Meta Housing tasked contractor Optimus Construction with building the new community. Construction management company KKG supervised the process while property management duties will be carried out by WSH Management.
