Austin Self Storage Asset Scores LEED Platinum
- Jan 09, 2019
CubeSmart’s store located at 6130 E. Ben White Blvd. in Austin, Texas, received the highest level of LEED certification. The self storage asset scored 84 points under the LEED v4 Operations and Maintenance: Warehouses and Distribution Centers rating system, more than any other property in Texas.
The property’s conservation features combine to create net zero energy status and include solar photovoltaic arrays, geothermal heating and cooling, rainwater towers, as well as regenerative drive elevator, which generates electricity from elevator movement. CubeSmart is also participating in Austin Energy’s GreenChoice Program, which sees that any additional energy purchases for the property will be 100 percent sourced from wind-generated power facilities in Texas.
“Environmental, social and governance performance indicators are increasingly important to our customers, teammates, investors and the communities we serve,” Christopher Marr, president & CEO, said in a prepared statement. “Receiving this important certification demonstrates our commitment to pursuing investment opportunities that improve the energy efficiency of our portfolio and positively impact the environment for the benefit of all our stakeholders.”
CubeSmart acquired the 78,700-square-foot property in early 2018, and even though the price tag was undisclosed, Yardi Matrix data shows a $7 million loan attached to it, held by Southwest Bank.
