- Apr 07, 2017
Avison Young recently appointed industry leader George Vail as principal. The capital markets specialist will serve the firm in Miami. Effective immediately, Vail will start contributing to the expansion of the firm’s capital markets and debt platform throughout Florida. He will also further the growth of the company’s regional joint venture and structured finance platforms.
The new Avison Young principal brings more than two decades of commercial real estate investment sales, financing and management experience. During his career thus far, he coordinated more than $4 billion in commercial real estate transactions, which have included investment sales as well as debt, equity, senior and mezzanine financing. Deals have also included performing and nonperforming loans, apartment communities, office buildings, retail centers, hotels, industrial complexes and development land sites.
“George’s management and recruiting experience, comprehensive real estate market knowledge, and collaborative approach to every transaction make him an ideal fit for Avison Young’s Principal-led culture. Furthermore, his presence will enable us to recruit top real estate professionals who seek to specialize in capital markets and other investment property transactions,” said Pike Rowley, Avison Young principal & managing director of the company’s Florida office, in prepared remarks.
Prior to joining the Toronto-based company, Vail served as managing director at Ackman-Ziff in Miami. Vail also spent six years in the same position at HFF Miami, where he focused on the sale of apartment communities, land, non-performing notes and bulk condominium assets. From 2004 to 2006, he was an associate vice president at DTZ Rockwood, a real estate investment banking firm in Miami, where he was responsible for the execution of more than $2 billion in investment sales transactions. At the beginning of his career, Vail was a member of Cushman & Wakefield’s capital markets group in Miami, participating in the execution of more than $800 million worth of retail investment sales transactions. Vail holds a master’s degree from the University of Miami and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, markets and management from Duke University.
In March, Avison Young also strengthened its Philadelphia presence by hiring Jim Pasquarella as senior vice president for capital markets.
