Best Western Promotes Ron Pohl to SVP & CEO

Since joining the company in early 2007, Pohl’s accomplishments have included achieving record high RevPAR Index, the brand’s best Net Promoter Scores, as well as the highest Medallia scores.

Phoenix—Best Western Hotels & Resorts has promoted Ron Pohl to senior vice president and chief operations officer.

“Ron has deep industry experience and has established a proven track record at Best Western,” David Kong, Best Western Hotels & Resorts’ president & CEO, told Commercial Property Executive. “He has many achievements that we are proud of. He has the talent, experience and passion to take our company to the next level.”

Pohl’s promotion comes at the end of a historic year for the iconic brand, celebrating 70 years of providing quality care for its guests, rolling out a new breakfast program, launching a global responsive site, and achieving record-setting results in RevPAR.

Pohl noted he is looking forward to the opportunity to use his strengths in hotel operations and development to grow the brand globally and improve the brand performance as measured by customers and hotel owners.

“We have been on a path to ensure Best Western is relevant to both developers and guests today and long into the future. It is with that in mind we have expanded our offerings to seven brands ranging from midscale to extended stay to upscale, and to urban and resort locations around the world,” Pohl told CPE. “Creating new brands are only the beginning, achieving critical mass for each brand and establishing customer recognition and satisfaction defines success.”

In the past few years, Best Western has pursued several transformative initiatives aimed at fully realizing the true potential of the company and there are several other major strategies under development. According to Kong, Pohl will be a crucial player to further evolve and strengthen the brand.

“Our brand strategy has multiple areas of focus to include enhancing our brand image, improving the guest experience and helping our hotel owners become even more successful,” Kong said. “Ron has a huge role in every one of these areas and we look to his leadership to make continuous progress.”

Pohl currently serves on the company’s executive committee and leads the brand’s operations and development efforts for North America and Asia. His responsibilities include overseeing key departments within the hotel company, including customer care, member services, revenue management, education and training, design, supply and global quality assurance.
