Colliers Acquires ‘Newbie’ Affiliate

Colliers International just took a notable step forward in enhancing its Strategy and Innovation division, with the acquisition of Corporate Portfolio Analytics, a Cambridge, Mass.-based real estate management consulting firm that’s been advising real-estate occupiers on the tactical management of their portfolios for more than 10 years.
Colliers’ expansion of its Strategy and Innovation Practice–a consulting services platform focused on reducing costs, improving returns and accelerating operational improvements for large corporate occupier clients–is a big initiative within the firm and CP Analytics fits with the plan perfectly. The firms are of like minds.
“We’re moving more from just a transaction-based approach to a very consultative business-based approach, and that’s really being driven by what clients want,” Martha O’Mara, co-founder & managing director of CP Analytics, told Commercial Property Executive. “It’s gone beyond, ‘Go find me some space.’ Now it’s, ‘Help me solve this business problem that relates to occupancy and location in my workplace.’ So the needs have changed and the firms have to respond to those changing needs.”
CP Analytics may be small and relatively young, but it’s no amateur. The firm’s laundry list of offerings includes such services as portfolio structural analysis, alternative workplace strategies, comparative metro analysis and demand forecast model and duration matching, just to name a few. And while the company doesn’t name names, it’s no stranger to big-name clients. The fact is, the CP Analytics team knows its business. O’Mara, who holds a Ph.D. in Organizational behavior jointly awarded by the Harvard Business School and Harvard’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, penned the book, “Strategy in Place” back in 1999.
“One of the hardest problems companies face is making a real estate decision because it’s the farthest they have to forecast their business needs, and that particular problem is something I’ve spent over 20 years thinking about; how you really link it with competitive strategy,” O’Mara said. “It’s always been hard for companies, but now it’s even harder because the ways that people work have changed, labor market dynamics have changed. It’s just a lot more complex decision.”
With integration of CP Analytics, Colliers can smoothly build more strategic planning tools into Colliers 360, its fully-integrated dashboard and analytics technology platform designed to provide complete coverage for clients’ corporate real estate and facilities requirements. “It already is a diagnostic system, but with these enhancements we’ll be able to work much more on the drivers of real estate demand and the impact of different workplace approaches on future portfolio requirements,” O’Mara added.
O’Mara comes aboard Colliers as Executive Managing Director, Head of Consulting, Corporate Solutions | Americas. “The acquisition of Corporate Portfolio Analytics is a real coup for Colliers, and Marti is the latest example of top industry talent that we are bringing on board,” Scott Nelson, president, Occupier Services and Corporate Solutions | Americas, said in a prepared statement.
Colliers and the CP Analytics team are clearly part of the mutual admiration society. “They’re such great folks and they really do want to revolutionize the industry. I know that sounds really corny, but I’m so excited to be a part of that,” O’ Mara concluded.
