A 27-acre parcel near AT&T Park is the proposed site of a sports-anchored $1.6 billion  waterfront plan  that would be among the nation’s largest urban mixed-use developments. The Cordish Cos. is teaming up with the San Francisco Giants on the 3.5 millon-square-foot office, retail and residential complex.

Dubbed Mission Rock, the project would include up to 1.7 million square feet of office space; 650 to 1,000 residential units in three to five buildings; 125,000 square feet of retail; and eight acres of open space. Construction would unfold in four phases from 2015 to 2021.

Cordish won the nod from city officials thanks to its involvement in redevelopment projects anchored by sports facilities. The city of Las Vegas picked the firm to develop Las Vegas Live!, a mixed-use entertainment district anchored by a 20,000-seat basketball and hockey arena. The company also hopes to kick-start construction this fall on Ballpark Village in St. Louis, a $550 million mixed-use project planned by Cordish and the St. Louis Cardinals.
