A joint venture of Lingerfelt CommonWealth Partners and JDI Realty has acquired the Virginia Bech Resort Hotel & Conference Center in Virginia Beach, Va. The 295-key hotel traded for $19 million, and new ownership plans to rebrand it as Delta Hotels by Marriott – Virginia Beach Bayfront Suites.
The hotel is located at 2800 Shore Drive, with immediate beach access along Chesapeake Bay. The 263,328-square-foot hotel features several suite types, including penthouse and two-bedroom suites. The ground floor features a fitness center, outdoor and indoor pools, ballrooms and a restaurant.
Apart from the adjacent beach, guests have access to a plethora of restaurants located along Shore Drive. The state route also offers direct access to Norfolk International Airport, situated about 10 miles from the hotel. Several other attractions can be found nearby, including the historic First Landing State Park, with its numerous hiking and canoe trails.
The hotel is slated to undergo a $25 million renovation and to become the newest Delta Hotels by Marriott. The Delta brand focuses on upscale, full-service hospitality services aimed at business and leisure travelers. Delta Hotels by Marriott currently encompasses more than 12,000 rooms across 50 hotels in the U.S., Canada and China.
“Commonwealth Lodging Management will continue to operate the property as the Virginia Beach Resort and Conference Center until the comprehensive, multi-million dollar renovation commences in this year’s fourth quarter. With its prime location on the Chesapeake Bay, combined with our significant reinvestment, we are confident we will deliver an all-suite, full-service product,” said Duane Gauthier, managing director of Commonwealth Lodging, in a prepared statement.
