EDF Renewables Mexico’s 120-megawatt peak Bluemex Power 1 solar project near Empalme, Mexico, has begun commercial operation. The facility is spread across 840 acres and comprises photovoltaic modules supplied by Canadian Solar.

Bluemex is one of two projects awarded to EDF Renewables Mexico through the second long-term auction for energy and clean energy certificates supply and purchase contracts with the Federal Electricity Commission call for tenders in 2016. Engineering, procurement and construction services were provided by Gransolar.

The $110 million solar farm has an annual generation capacity of 277 gigawatt-hours and created 900 jobs during the construction phase and 18 permanent operation and maintenance jobs. EDF Renewables will perform asset management, operation and maintenance, as well as on-site dispatch and monitoring service to ensure operational performance and equipment availability and to reduce downtime.
