Gilbane Development Co. is bringing its “Next Level of Student Housing” program to Cincinnati. The Providence, R.I.-based developer recently began work on The Verge, a modern apartment community at the corner of West McMillan Street and West Clifton Avenue, one block from the University of Cincinnati’s main campus.

Gilbane broke ground March 2 on the project, which calls for 178 units and 495 beds in a 245,000-square-foot building. The development will feature many student-oriented amenities, including a large clubhouse, gaming tables, cyber cafe, media room, a fitness center, group study rooms, a private courtyard and parking for 380 cars. Additionally, 7,500 square feet of commercial space will be located along West McMillan Street and West Clifton Avenue.

The Verge will offer apartments ranging in size from one to five bedrooms. Units will be fully furnished, with private bedrooms and bathrooms, washers and dryers, walk-in closets and high-definition TVs. Gilbane did not reveal the cost of the project, which will be a candidate for LEED Silver certification. Opening is scheduled for August 2016.
