Venice, Italy—InterContinental Hotels Group recently announced the signing of its first luxury hotel in Venice, Italy. The 16th Century Palazzo Nani in the heart of Italy’s major touristic destination is slated to open at the beginning of 2018, and will run under a franchise agreement with Gruppo Cordifin and H.n.h Hotels & Resorts Management.
Conveniently nested and facing the Cannaregio Canal, which connects to Venice’s Grand Canal, the historical property offers access to top landmarks, including St. Mark’s Square, the Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco. The new InterContinental Venice – Palazzo Nani, close to the city’s train station and gateway, will become a 51-key hotel retaining the building’s original decorations.
The property boasts hand-painted alfresco ceilings and hand-carved wooden beams, which are planned for restoration. After the renovations are completed, amenities will include a wellness center, meeting facilities and a Club InterContinental Lounge.
“InterContinental Venice – Palazzo Nani will be a great addition to the InterContinental family, offering guests an unforgettable experience in a city loved by millions around the world,” said Robert Shepherd, IHG chief development officer, in prepared remarks.
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, IHG’s luxury brand, currently holds a portfolio of more than 180 properties worldwide, with 32 hotels in Europe. The Venice hotel is the brand’s second addition in Italy, after the InterContinental in Rome. However, the property in Italy’s capital will be closing its doors at the end of this month after over 15 years of operations.
