Homewood Suites by Hilton to Open in University City
- Apr 30, 2012
Hilton Hotels & Resorts is consolidating its presence in the city of Philadelphia with Homewood Suites, an 11-story extended stay facility that’s nearing completion. Development company Campus Apartments LLC broke ground on the $50 million hotel in December 2010, reports The Daily Pennsylvanian, and an opening ceremony for the public is slated for May 1. According to real estate blog Phila Shark, the hotel development was jointly financed by the state, Philadelphia Industrial Development Corp., The Reinvestment Fund, US Bank Community Development Corp. and Beneficial Bank.
Conveniently located at 4109 Walnut Street on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, the new hotel is within walking distance from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Penn Medicine, Presbyterian Hospital and the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, which makes it perfectly suitable for visitors who plan longer stays in the University City area.
According to the project design by Alesker & Dundon Architects, the 110,000-square-foot Homewood Suites University City will include 136 suite-type guest rooms of around 500 square feet each, with separate bedrooms and fully equipped kitchens. Homewood Suites guests will also enjoy an indoor swimming pool, a fully equipped fitness center, a dining room with 50 seats and a video-conference room that can accommodate up to 44 people.
The new hotel follows the city’s commitment to sustainable building and its green features—which include a green roof, on-site storm water management, low-flow fixtures for water management and a new energy management system—resulted in a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification. Around 350 construction jobs were created during construction.
