Hotel to Rise Near Braves’ New Ballpark

Omni Hotels & Resorts will develop a hotel in the mixed-use development adjacent to the new ballpark where the Atlanta Braves will move in 2017.

The Atlanta Braves are teaming up with Omni Hotels & Resorts to develop a new hotel in the mixed-used development adjacent to SunTrust Park, the new stadium in Cobb County, Ga., where the Major League Baseball team will move in 2017. Groundbreaking is expected later this year for the property, dubbed the Omni Atlanta Northwest Hotel.

The hotel will feature 16 floors, nearly 260 guest rooms and suites, rooftop hospitality suites, approximately 12,500 square feet of meeting space, a signature restaurant, an elevated pool deck and bar overlooking the plaza and ballpark.

Omni’s new hotel will be a major component of the 60-acre site mixed-use project under way at the northwest intersection of I-75 and I-285 at Cobb Parkway.  Also in the works are residences, premier office space, an entertainment venue, retail and a variety of dining options.

The hotel will also serve meeting groups and business and leisure travelers alike, and those attending baseball games and other events.

“This new property will be a great addition to our growing collection of unique sports-related venues. For example, our Omni Atlanta Hotel at CNN Center is connected to the dynamic and new College Football Hall of Fame,” an Omni spokesperson told CPE. “A good portion of our growth strategy is through acquisitions of the right properties in the right markets at the right time. From a new construction standpoint, we will continue to develop, own and operate convention center, city center, and lifestyle-center hotels, such as the Omni Atlanta Hotel at SunTrust Park.”

Omni recently announced a similar partnership with the Dallas Cowboys to develop a luxury hotel at the future site of the Cowboys World Headquarters in Frisco, Texas.  In 2004, it opened the Omni San Diego Hotel, which is connected to PETCO Park, home of the San Diego Padres.
