A pair of new hotels that will add 300 guest rooms to the Virginia Beach oceanfront by 2017 now have their builder.

Armada Hoffler Properties Inc. announced on June 8 that an affiliate, Armada Hoffler Construction Co. will serve as general contractor for the $100 million project, which will also include retail space and a parking structure. The Virginia Beach-based company did not identify the client, saying only that it has been retained by “a private development group” and that Armada Hoffler Properties will not own the hotels. .

The Virginian-Pilot reported that the project will create two 19-story hotels at 27th Street and Atlantic Avenue. One of them will be a 126-key Hyatt House; the other, a Hyatt Place, will offer 174 guest rooms.

Armada Hoffler, which has built several hotels in the Hampton Roads area, expects to start work on the $100 million project during the second half of the year.
