Infomart Data Centers has completed a 10,000-square-foot suite expansion at its data center in Ashburn, Va. The newly added raised floor space is the first in a total of six planned additions, which are set to bring a total of 18 megawatts of capacity to Infomart’s facility.

Infomart Ashburn is an 180,000-square foot data center, operational since the dawn of the commercial internet, initially serving AOL’s email platform. Infomart has since implemented a complete renovation of the facility, bringing it to 21st century standards. The data center meets several government compliance mandates, such as FISMA, NIST, DIACAP, NISPOM and ICD 705.

We’ve worked quickly to bring an industry-leading facility to market and consider today the beginning of our commitment to be a leading provider in Northern Virginia,” said Dan Ephraim, vice president of Infomart, in a prepared statement.

The facility is designed to serve cloud computing and IT service companies, as well as enterprise clients, both domestic and international, federal agencies and systems integrators. Infomart Ashburn comprises nine data halls with 2N+1 IT critical power redundancy, hot and cold isle configurations and a building management system which measures Power Usage Efficiency in real time. Tenants will also have access to redundant meet-me rooms, a variety of carriers to choose from and fiber link to more than 60 other regional data centers.

The asset class continues its trajectory from niche option to mainstream choice. CBRE estimates that data centers attracted $20 billion last year, which includes single-asset, portfolio and entity-level/M&A transactions.
