Brookfield Begins Construction on $88M Senior-Living Community in Sydney

Leading global contractor Brookfield Multiplex has broken ground on an $88 million (AUD $100 million) senior living community in Sydney’s Vaucluse suburb.
The company is developing the project in partnership with the Mark Moran Group led by Mark and Evette Moran, winners of this year’s Best Seniors Development at the Ageing Asia Pacific Forum.
Called Mark Moran Vaucluse, the new retirement complex will rise on a former high school site at the corner of Old South Head Road and Laguna Street.
Upon completion by April 2016, the approximately 130,000-square-foot facility will offer more than 200 different types of residential units, almost half of which will be “super suites,” along with a number of independent living units and residential aged-care rooms. Amenities will include dining venues, a 270-square-foot swimming pool, fitness center, cinema, card club, beauty center, art rooms and a wellness center.
As construction advances, prospective residents will have the option to choose between a diverse range of housing options and lifestyle choices within the community, which will offer 24-hour care, concierge and security services.
“Seniors living is a pressing issue in Australia with the increase in our ageing population and the need to provide high quality, desirable housing options for seniors. We are excited to be bringing the best in retirement living community to Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs,” David Ghannoum, regional managing director of New South Wales at Brookfield Multiplex, said in a news release.
Designed by Marchese Partners, the project will also feature a four-story atrium with abundant natural light that would connect the building’s floors and wings, as well as a landscaped plaza at the main entrance to the building to encourage community access into the facility from the nearby Vaucluse Shopping Village.
“Evette and I are creating a world first in integrated seniors planning and lifestyle. To match the architecture and the build quality, we are bringing lifestyle components that will have the Village run more like a cruise ship than a retirement village,” Moran added. “Our members will have peace of mind that as they go about their active lives, they need not worry about lifestyle management or any future care requirements if or when required.”
