The partnership between JCPenney and Sephora is growing, with the addition of 70 new Sephora inside JCPenney shops and 32 expansions beginning in May. The beauty destination was first introduced in 2006 and now will be available in 650 stores in 2017.

Sephora inside JCPenney shops feature an open-sell environment encompassing up to 2,600 square feet of cosmetics, skincare, fragrance and beauty accessories. New openings scheduled for this year include Ross Park Mall in Pittsburgh, Pa., Charlottesville Fashion Square in Charlottesville, Va., West Valley Mall in Tracy, Calif. and Danbury Fair in Danbury, Conn. Existing expansions that will be taking place in JCPenney locations include Meadows Shopping Center in Las Vegas, Sunrise Mall in Brownsville, Texas, Columbia Center in Kennewick, Wash. and Westland Mall in Hialeah, Fla. As part of the beauty expansion, the company will hire an additional 800 consultants nationwide.

“Creating a best-in-class beauty experience in stores is one of our biggest advantages over the competition. Since establishing the first Sephora inside JCPenney over 10 years ago, beauty has become a formidable growth strategy that makes our brick and mortar stores a dynamic and inspiring place to shop,” said Marvin Ellison, chairman & CEO of JCPenney, in prepared remarks. “We are also taking an omnichannel approach to shopping Sephora inside JCPenney by strengthening our technology and infrastructure to reach new beauty customers through JCPenney.com.”

JCPenney also just recently sold its 1.8 million-square-foot headquarters in Plano, Texas, to Dreien Opportunity Partners in a $353 million sale-leaseback transaction.
