JLL has added two new brokers to its South Florida retail team. Rafael Romero is the company’s newest senior vice president and Katie Fernandez-Espinosa joins the brokerage firm as vice president. Most recently, both of them were with Continental Real Estate Cos. (CREC), a South Florida brokerage firm recently acquired by Colliers International.

“Retail is one of the strongest real estate sectors in South Florida and a key growth market for JLL. Rafael and Katie are bringing a unique skill set and focus to our team,” said JLL’s Zach Winkler, senior vice president & retail lead for South Florida, in prepared remarks.

Romero previously handled landlord representation for several high-profile shopping centers and mixed-use retail properties throughout South Florida. Plantation Walk, a $350 million mixed-use development in Plantation, and Greenery Mall in Kendall were among some of his most notable clients. Romero holds an associate degree in occupational studies and navigation from Thomas Edison State College and is a U.S. Navy veteran.

Fernandez-Espinosa made the transition to CREC’s retail leasing team after joining the firm as part of the office leasing group. Marsh & McLennan, Eightfold Capital, Pollo Tropical and Mayors Jewelers are some of the tenants she has represented. Previously, Fernandez-Espinosa handled property management and leasing in Coral Gables and Doral, Fla., for Hines. Fernandez-Espinosa attended Wake Forest University and Florida International University.
