New Hilton Partnership to Create 4,000 Rooms in U.K.

Taking another big leap in its international expansion plan, Hilton Hotels has formed a strategic alliance with HLH Property Ltd. for the development of as many as 30 new hotels in the United Kingdom over the next five years. The properties, which will encompass a total of approximately 4,000 guestrooms, will be delivered over the next five years. For the most part, the lodging facilities will carry the flag of Hampton by Hilton, Hilton’s modern economy hotel brand. HLH has already pinpointed sites for consideration in the U.K. and Ireland. Areas chosen for the new hotels are predominantly located in areas that will not overlap with properties in Hilton’s increasingly large portfolio in the region. News of Hilton’s partnership with HLH comes almost exactly one year after the announcement of the company’s formation of two major alliances for developments in the U.K. On June 4 of last year, Hilton revealed that it had joined forces with Shiva Hotels Ltd. for the establishment of a minimum 15 new hotels that will operate under the Hilton, Doubletree by Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton by Hilton brands. About eight days later, the hotel conglomerate announced that it had signed a letter of understanding for another major franchise development alliance with Somerston Hotels UK Limited for the creation of at least 25 Hampton by Hilton hotels. Headquartered in Beverly Hills, Hilton Hotels Corp. is a leading global hospitality concern with a portfolio of over 3,000 owned, managed or franchised properties accounting for an aggregate 500,000 guestrooms in approximately 80 countries. The company’s Hilton UK & Ireland division presently has 77 hotels totaling 15,500 rooms under its operation. HLH, a joint venture involving London & Hanover Developments and Heritage Group Developments, develops hotels and mixed-use projects across the U.K.
