- Sep 23, 2016
Based in the firm’s Columbus office, Marshall will report directly to CEO Andrea Olshan, working as a member of her executive team with responsibility for all retail assets. In this newly created role, Marshall will focus on growing the firm’s highly diversified, 10 million-square-foot retail portfolio through strategic acquisitions, as well as overseeing management of the portfolio’s day-to-day operations.
“I am delighted to welcome Ken to Olshan Properties as our new head of retail,” Olshan said in prepared remarks. “Ken is a well-known, best-in-class commercial real estate veteran who enjoys a peerless reputation. He comes to us with deep industry relationships and a track record of success in the development and operation of commercial assets based on a disciplined approach to investing, excellent leadership abilities and an exceptional foundation in real estate grounded in his academic focus in architecture. We’re excited to draw on Ken’s countless strengths and attributes as we work together to drive Olshan Properties’ continued success.”
Marshall’s career in retail real estate spans almost a quarter of a century. He joins Olshan Properties most recently from retail REIT Washington Prime Group (formerly WP Glimcher), where he served as vice president of development overseeing retail and office development projects for the company, including a vertically integrated mixed-use lifestyle center and a $25 million strategic mall renovation. Prior to that, Marshall was executive vice president of Colonial Properties Trust’s 11 million-square-foot commercial division, where he led asset management, leasing, operations, development and capital improvement spending.
“I’m thrilled to throw my hat in with the distinguished and driven team of real estate professionals at Olshan Properties,” commented Marshall. “I’ve long been impressed by Olshan’s rich legacy and superior portfolio of value-add retail and other properties, and I’m enthusiastic to get to work contributing to the future successes of this dynamic company.”
Marshall holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with supplemental study in real estate. He is currently a registered architect in the state of Illinois and a regular contributor to International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) publications. Marshall has also been a frequent speaker at ICSC sessions and panels, and has been a featured panelist at the Urban Land Institute’s Retailing Program.
