Peak 10 Inc., the Charlotte-based data center solutions company, has announced it will be expanding its surface area in Charlotte by 62,000 square-feet by building a fourth data center. The new building will be located in University Research Park near UNC-Charlotte and will be developed in phases depending on market demand. The first phase of expansion is scheduled to be operational in just a few months and will be adding 14,000 square feet of premier raised floor space. The new North Charlotte data center campus will be almost double the size of the existing 33,600-square-foot campus in the southwest area of the city.
The facility will have the same enterprise-class standard features as Peak 10’s other data centers: five-point physical security, uninterruptible power, HVAC systems, fire suppression and round-the-clock monitoring and management. Furthermore, it will be SSAE 16- and PCI-compliant and interconnected with the Peak 10 private network, which provides highly available Internet access and data-leveraging in nine other markets in the event of disaster recovery and situations that necessitate the ensuring of business continuity.
Peak 10 was founded in Charlotte in 2000. It offers cloud, managed and data center services in nine Midwestern and Southeastern markets—including Atlanta, Jacksonville and Cincinnati. It also offers secure solutions for hosting and managing complex information technology infrastructures. LendingTree, Churchill Down, Healthways and Carnival Cruise Lines are only a few of Peak 10’s clients. Private Equity firm Welsh, Carson & Anderson Stowe became the majority owner of Peak 10 in 2010 for a price upwards of $400 million.
The cost of expansion has not yet been disclosed.
“We are committed to this region, and it shows through the expansion of our local operations three times over the last seven years and continued, steady growth planned over the next 5-10 years”, said president and CEO David Jones in a press release, which might indicate that rumors about Peak 10 expanding their employee base are true.
