Last week development company Ensemble Hotel Partners, LLC celebrated the groundbreaking of its first Navy Yard Corporate Center project: a new Courtyard by Marriott hotel located at the corner of Rouse Boulevard and Intrepid Avenue.

The $34 million facility will be a much needed addition to the fast-growing and buzzing Navy Yard area, which by the end of 2012 will be home to more than 120 companies such as GlaxoSmithKline, Urban Outfitters Inc., Iroko Pharmaceuticals and others in addition to approximately 10,000 employees.

Built by local contractor INTECH Construction under plans designed by Erdy McHenry Architects, also based in Philadelphia, the new hotel will be LEED certified for energy efficiency upon completion in late 2013. The five-story, 99,000-square-foot structure will include 172 rooms with executive suites, 2,000-square-feet of meeting space, an upscale restaurant, a lounge and a state-of-the-art fitness center located on the first floor.

The hotel project, which is expected to create 400 construction jobs and 50 permanent jobs, was announced last October by Liberty Property/Synterra L.P., a joint-venture between Liberty Property Trust and Synterra Partners, and the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC). Long Beach, CA-based Ensemble Hotel Partners, a subsidiary of Ensemble Investments, LLC, was selected to develop the hotel.
