ProLogis Leases New Facility to French Supermarket Group

International distribution facility giant ProLogis has leased 277,000 square feet near the Port of Le Havre, France’s largest container port by volume, to Cedilec, a French provider of third-party logistics services for the food retail industry. Cedilec has leased 100 percent of the space in a recently completed facility (pictured) at ProLogis Park du Hode, a 1.6 million-square foot rail-served distribution park being developed along France’s A13/131 highways, which connect Le Havre to Paris, seven kilometers from the Le Havre port terminal. Cedilec will operate the space as a break-bulk facility, distributing product on behalf of Leclerc Supermarkets Group to key markets throughout France. This is ProLogis’ second agreement in Le Havre with Cedilec, which also leases 206,000 square feet in a facility at the same park. “Demand for modern logistics space in the Le Havre market continues to grow due to the location’s superior access to France’s largest international seaport as well as domestic rail service,” said Ranald Hahn, managing director for ProLogis in southern Europe, in a statement. “Container traffic at the Port of Le Havre has grown significantly over the last 24 months, reaching more than 2.4 million 20-foot equivalent units at the end of 2007. Combined with the increasing number of major global customers seeking to establish operations in the region, all indications are that Le Havre is well on its way to becoming indispensable in our customer’s European logistics platforms.” ProLogis Park du Hode is a multi-modal distribution park, providing access to major road, rail and sea transit networks. The park, which currently contains six facilities, will expand to eight facilities totaling more than 2.3 million square feet. Other customers at the park include Altadis, Gefco, Schenker and XP Log. Prologis has made news several times in the last month, with major announcements concerning appointments and leases. Philip Dunne is moving from Jones Lang LaSalle for the new ProLogis position of COO/Europe and the Middle East. Ralf Wessel was promoted to managing director of ProLogis’ global investment management and of Simon Nelson to senior vice president of fund management and acquisitions in Europe and head of asset management for ProLogis European Properties. The firm’s July deals reported by CPN include the lease to JVC America Inc. of the 540,000-square-foot New Manchester Distribution Center, just west of Atlanta; 252,000 square feet of distribution space in France to Schenker S.A., a French subsidiary of the Schenker Group; and 500,000 square feet to three customers in the greater Dallas metropolitan area. The company is also expanding its presence in greater Nagoya, Japan, with the development of a four-story, multi-tenant facility distribution facility totaling about 458,000 square feet, and it has leased approximately 205,000 square feet in Dalian, China to Nittsu Sinotrans Logistics Dalian Ltd., a joint venture between Sinotrans Liaoning Co. and Nippon Express.
