COO Brian Harper will follow in the footsteps of Rouse CEO Andrew Silberfein, who is stepping down later this year.

Following the closing of the $2.8 billion transaction with Brookfield, Andrew Silberfein will step down from his role as President & CEO of Rouse in order to pursue other opportunities. Current COO Brian Harper will serve as the new CEO of Rouse Properties, under Brookfield’s ownership. Brookfield’s acquisition of Rouse is expected to close in the third quarter of 2016.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to lead Rouse, and I am extraordinarily proud of what our team has accomplished since our spin-off in 2012 from General Growth Properties,” Silberfein said in a statement. “In a few short years we have implemented a vision to upgrade and rebrand an underperforming portfolio, build-out a first-class platform and transform Rouse into a formidable competitor that consistently demonstrated excellent performance over this time period.”

Before being promoted to COO in the spring 2015, Harper served as executive vice president of leasing and acquisitions with Rouse Properties. Harper was also honored as one of the Chain Store Age’s top 10 individuals under the age of 40 who are making an impact in the retail real estate market.

“Brian and I have worked side by side since our formation, and his deep market knowledge and innovative approach have been instrumental to Rouse’s success, especially since his appointment as COO last year.”
