A pair of major leasing deals is helping the New Year get off to a strong start in the Bay Area. In a $339 million deal that city officials called the biggest of its kind in a decade, Salesforce.com committed to leasing 400,000 square feet at 50 Fremont Street, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. Salesforce.com also has a purchase option that kicks in starting in Dec. 2017. At the same time, Salesforce.com is pursuing a 2 million-square-foot headquarters in Mission Bay, which the company will develop over the next 10 years.

BioMarin, a pharmaceutical development company, has signed a 10-year deal for 120,000 square feet at the San Rafael Corporate Center, the San Francisco Business Times reports. BioMarin will move around 100 employees into the new space, which is divided into a full building and two floors of a neighboring structure, during the second half of the year.The company will retain its 420,000-square-foot headquarters in Novato.
