Salvo to Develop $259M M-F Tower in Melbourne

Salvo Property Group, a leading Australian development company focused on developing affordable luxury properties, has appointed Brookfield Multiplex to design and construct Platinum Tower, a $259 million (AUD 280 million) multi-family tower in Melbourne.
Set to break ground in July 2014, the 438-unit condo project sold out in the first half of May. Located at 263 City Road in the Southbank area – Melbourne’s Arts and Entertainment Precinct – the building will shoot up 52 stories into the Melbourne sky. The project will consist of an 11-story podium with street-level commercial space and 41 levels of apartments and amenities.
Platinum will include one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom units, as well as penthouses. Units will feature floor-to-ceiling windows, balconies and space-efficient layouts. The 52nd floor will comprise the development’s health and leisure amenities and offer a 360-degree view of Melbourne, especially the CBD, Albert Park, The Docklands and Port Philip Bay. Amenities will include Melbourne’s only residential sky lounge, available for residents’ social functions, a 50-foot long swimming pool, Melbourne’s highest, with floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides, day spa, sauna, fitness center and winter gardens.
The podium will mainly comprise of a nine-story car-park. Street-level space will be taken up by a grand lobby and the concierge facilities, along with the Piatto Restaurant & Bar, an Italian provedore-style restaurant that will also provide room-service deliveries.
Platinum includes a bevy of environmentally conscious features such as water-efficient fixtures and appliances, rainwater harvesting and re-use for landscaping irrigation, high performance glazing, 170 bicycle racks and a green wall on levels two through eight.
The skyscraper’s striking look is signed by Australian architecture and interior design firm Squillace. While most of the podium will be covered by the green wall, the residential tower will have painted metallic precast feature elements, while the upper ten stories will be wrapped by a bronze and indigo colored glass curtain wall.
Platinum will benefit from being within walking distance of the CBD, Albert Park, the Botanic Gardens, Melbourne’s famous St. Kilda Road Boulevard and Southbank’s myriad of fine dining destinations.
The development team includes service engineers WSP, Wood, Grieve and Hydrautech with Wood and Grieve also acting as civil engineers, structural engineer Rincovich and Squillace as architect and designer.
Platinum is expected to be completed in July 2016.
