SC Metal Processer to Invest $13M in Plant Expansion

Kloeckner Metals intends to add 50,000 square feet to its existing Greenville County operations. The Georgia-based company will create 19 jobs.

Kloeckner Metals, one of the largest producers and distributors of steel and metal products in North America, plans to expand its Greenville County operations. The company intends to invest $11.3 million and create 19 jobs. Kloeckner’s Greenville, S.C., facility currently features 150,000 square feet, but the expansion will add 50,000 square feet.

Located at One White Horse Road, the industrial plant is between Atlanta and Charlotte, N.C., and serves the company’s southeast customers. The new space will house a high-speed slitting line, capable of processing aluminum and advanced, high-strength steel.

Upstate growth

“We wanted a slitting line that would look forward to the future of processing evermore-demanding customer specifications, including advanced, automotive-grade steel and aluminum. We specified a highly-automated line with sophisticated technology features that will deliver a highly-efficient and capable value proposition for our mill partners and customers,” said Kloeckner Metals Vice President Automotive Bob Cromley, in a prepared statement.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved $100,000 in job development credits related to this project. Hiring for the new positions is projected to begin in early 2018.

Kloeckner Metals services more than 8,000 metalworking businesses throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico, Mexico and Canada. The company ships carbon and non-ferrous metals from inventories stocked in 50 locations throughout North America.
