Shaner Silver Spring Hotel LLC is developing Fairfield by Marriott Mechanicsburg, a five-story, 108-key hotel in Mechanicsburg, Pa. The developers, a partnership between Shaner Hotels and Paul Risk Construction, received construction financing from Pennian Bank.

“We felt a good product at this location would fit perfectly with our portfolio and be a great addition to the business community and also the leisure traveler that comes through,” Plato Ghinos, Shaner Hotels’ president, told Commercial Property Executive. “We are actively expanding in quality markets with quality brands and this is a natural expansion market for us.”

Shaner Hotels now has 15 hotels in Pennsylvania, with four being in the Greater Harrisburg area. The company also owns and manages hotels in Italy, Greece and the Bahamas, as well as other areas in the U.S. Last August, Shaner Hotels opened Fairfield Inn & Suites Harrisburg, a 123-key hotel the company owns and operates in Harrisburg, Pa.

“We are a 35-year-old hotel company based in Central Pennsylvania, and we have been very pleased with our properties in the Harrisburg area,” Ghinos added. “It’s a natural growth opportunity for us to expand in that market and we plan to continue growing in the state.”

Businesses are thriving

Located at 503 Winding Creek, the hotel is situated within a popular hospitality hub within the Mechanicsburg, Carlisle Pike and Harrisburg regions.

“Silver Spring Township is a perfect location from a hotel point of view, because it is commercially very active and successful,” Ghinos said. “There are office buildings on the other side of the street and there are lots of businesses moving into the neighborhood.”

Fairfield by Marriott Mechanicsburg will offer a 24/7 fitness center and indoor pool, complimentary Wi-Fi and a complimentary, daily breakfast buffet. According to Ghinos, there will be a pad site for a future 175-seat restaurant, with extra space for a possible office building or extended-stay hotel. The property is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2020.
