Simon, Noble Investment to Build 166-Room AC Hotels by Marriott in Atlanta

Buckhead's Phipps Plaza will soon become home to one of the few U.S. properties under the rapidly expanding AC Hotels by Marriott brand.

Phipps Plaza, the 880,000-square-foot upscale shopping center in the tony Buckhead district of Atlanta, will soon become home to one of the few U.S. properties under the rapidly expanding AC Hotels by Marriott brand. Simon, owner of Phipps Plaza, has partnered with Noble Investment Group to develop the 166-room lodging destination.

The AC Hotels brand, launched by Spanish hotelier Antonio Catalan in 1998, can be found across Spain, Italy, Portugal and France. In 2011, Marriott International Inc. joined forces with Catalan to debut the fashionable AC Hotels by Marriott brand in Europe, and in 2013, Marriott announced it would bring the chain — described as an upper moderate tier lifestyle brand — to the U.S. The first AC Hotel made its debut this year in New Orleans; AC by Marriott Buckhead is the fourth to be announced.

“Phipps Plaza represents the best-in-class retail experience in our region and an ideal complement to introduce this innovative and stylish hotel experience to Atlanta,” Mit Shah, CEO of Noble, noted in a prepared statement.

In addition to fashion-inspired guestrooms, AC Buckhead will feature 2,500 square feet of meeting space, the trademark AC Library and the requisite fitness center and swimming pool.

AC Buckhead will open its doors in January 2016.
