Sonoco Plans Packaging Center in Georgia

The company intends to invest $20 million in the new manufacturing center that will support Duracell’s new battery packing operation.

Atlanta—Sonoco Products Co., a global packing company, has announced that the firm plans to invest $20 million in a new packing center in metro Atlanta. Sonoco’s new facility will translate into 30 full-time and 465 part-time jobs for the Fairburn, Ga. community .

The new facility will install and operate modern primary packaging equipment, provide all packaging materials and services, and handle the production of retail merchandising displays. Located at 5000 Bohannon Road in the Shugart Farms Industrial Park, the new property will support Duracell’s new North America battery packing operation.

“This is a one-of-a-kind relationship in our industry, where we have the opportunity to supply a diverse range of packaging products and services which come together as a single integrated solution. This will require the building of a skilled, diverse team, and we’re proud to work with Duracell to create hundreds of jobs in the state of Georgia to make this a success for everyone involved,” Philippe Erhart, Sonoco vice president & general manager of Display and Packaging, said in a prepared statement.

The facility is expected to operate at full capacity by the last quarter of 2018. At present, Sonoco operates eight manufacturing and three recycling centers throughout Georgia, with more than 300 full-time associates.
