St. Regis to Open in Dubai in 2012

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide will be bringing the St. Regis brand to the United Arab Emirates Dubai, it has reported. The opening is slated for 2012. The St. Regis Hotel Dubai will be close to the commercial and main shopping centers of the city, in the Starhill Towers & Gallery, a high-rise and multi-use development owned and developed by ETA Star Property Developers. The Starhill is part of the multi-billion dollar Business Bay Development, a 21-million square foot mixed-use project of Dubai Properties that will include retail, office, hospitality and residential. Dubai development has been much in the news lately. Recently, as reported in CPN earlier this month, Zabeel Properties announced its plans for an uber-upscale 800-room hotel and resort. The emirate’s ruler, Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has announced a $60 billion development planned for an 800 million-square foot area called Mohammed Bin Rashid Gardens that will include more park acreage than New York City and London combined. Developer Sama Dubai began work on Dubai Towers in late June in the 12.5 million-square-foot development. Additionally, the Rezidor Hotel Group is planning to build two hotels and a Radisson Hotel Jumeirah Dubai. Other properties destined for fame in Dubai include: Dubailand, the world’s largest theme park, Hydropolis, the world’s first luxury underwater hotel, and Buri Dubai, what will be the tallest building, and the tallest man-made structure in the world. The proposed St. Regis hotel is to include 220 guest rooms, three restaurants, two bars, a fitness center with a swimming pool and spa, retail and meeting space. The residences will have a private entrance and include 80 apartments. ETA Star Property Developers is currently developing more than 30 million square feet of property in the Middle-East and South-East Asia. In addition to the United Arab Emirates, this includes properties in Turkey, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and India.
