Stars to Watch 2014: Ross Chomik

Executive Vice President, Vision Real Estate Partners L.L.C.

Greatest Accomplishments: Acquisition and redevelopment of the 194-acre former Alcatel-Lucent campus in Whippany, N.J., followed by development of Bayer Healthcare’s new North American headquarters on half an acre. Ross’ leadership was key in successfully crafting a solution that met Bayer’s immediate needs while providing forward-thinking expansion possibilities. Through Vision’s seven years, he has been instrumental in building the firm’s track record of consistently outperforming market conditions for risk-adjusted returns for all asset types and classes.

Secrets to Success: A strong work ethic combined with a true passion for the business.

Greatest Challenges: Being in an entrepreneurial environment, balancing work and family is a constant challenge. Ross has two young children and a wife who works, as well. “It’s a business where you work 24-7, seven days a week, which can be a great strain on you, and you’ve got to keep that balance.”

Advice to Others: Make sure you truly love and have a passion for this business, because the most successful people are those that have a true passion for it.

What Others Say About Him: Robert Donnelly, executive vice president of the capital markets group at Cushman & Wakefield of New Jersey Inc., who has worked with Ross on various real estate acquisition, development and leasing opportunities since 2006, calls him a “hardworking, creative professional who is passionate about real estate and developing relationships that create value for himself and his partners.” Robert Klausner, partner at Fox Rothschild L.L.P., who has worked with Ross on the Whippany deal, said he has great skills and “the wisdom of someone 20 years older.”
