From the World Economic Forum Latin America in Panama, Starwood Hotels & Resorts has announced the opening of Aloft Guadalajara, its 26th property in Mexico.

The company, which now owns 80 properties in Latin America, has also unveiled its plans for the opening of 17 new hotels in this part of the world over the next two years. The expansion would increase Starwood’s footprint in Latin America by 20 percent, strengthening the company’s position as the region’s largest high-end hotel operator.

“With sustained GDP growth, a stable influx of foreign direct investment to high-growth markets, and a fast-rising middle class, Latin America continues to be a region filled with growth opportunities for our globally recognized and admired brands,” Frits van Paasschen, president & CEO, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, said in a news release.

Located on the prestigious Avenida de las Americas, the new 142-key Aloft Guadalajara offers easy access to the airport and major businesses, restaurants and shopping areas. Amenities include the brand’s signature fitness center, an indoor swimming pool, as well as an all-day dining restaurant, which serves both international dishes and authentic Mexican food.

Starwood has also announced the opening of The Westin Cozumel, its eighth Westin hotel in Mexico. The 156-room property is scheduled to welcome its first guests during the summer of 2016.

In Columbia, the company will increase its presence from four to eight hotels over the next two years. The new properties include the 140-room Four Points by Sheraton Bogota, which is scheduled to open in June; the 119-room Four Points by Sheraton Barranquilla, set to welcome its first guests in September; the W Bogota, which will also open its doors during this year’s third quarter; and a beachfront Sheraton hotel in Cartagena, scheduled to open in 2015.

The company’s upward momentum in Latin America will also include the opening of The Sheraton Santa Cruz Hotel in Bolivia, Sheraton Reserva do Paiva Hotel near Recife in Brazil, Four Points Cancun opening in July, and Four Points in Queretaro, Mexico in early 2015. Starwood will also open Four Points by Sheraton in Cuenca, Ecuador in the third quarter of 2015. The company’s new additions for the Aloft brand over the next two years will bring the Aloft Merida in Mexico; the Aloft Asuncion in Paraguay and the Aloft Montevideo in Uruguay.
