Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. announced last week the opening of the Westin Crystal City. The new hotel is the third property to open in Arlington under the Westin Brand.

A former Sheraton, the Westin Crystal City underwent a $20 million renovation before it was converted to the new brand. It now offers 220 luxurious guest rooms and 16,000 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting facilities, including 11 meeting rooms, right in the heart of Crystal City, Arlington’s largest downtown neighborhood, close to the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, shopping, businesses and numerous attractions, from the White House to the Smithsonian Museums.

According to Starwood, all of the hotel’s guestrooms have been fully renovated and outfitted with the Westin brand’s signature services and amenities. Additional facilities at the Westin Crystal City include a new restaurant and bar, a 24-hour business center and a fitness studio.

HEI Hotels & Resorts is the owner and manager of the new hotel.

“We are thrilled to reposition this ideally located hotel as a Westin and expect to attract both business and leisure travelers with the brand’s distinctive wellness positioning and innovative brand-led programming,” Anthony Rutledge, CEO of HEI Hotels & Resorts, said in a statement for the press. “The Westin brand is a great fit for Crystal City and will help meet the demand for high-caliber lodging in this thriving business and retail center, just minutes from the nation’s capital.”

The new hotel opens right at a great time for the hospitality market. According to reports from PricewaterhouseCoopers, travel activity picked up significantly in the second quarter of the year, resulting in better-than-expected occupancy performance. The strong gains registered this year will help set the hospitality industry on track to hit its highest occupancy levels in 20 years in 2015. Click here to read more on the subject.
