Topgolf International Inc. has selected Virginia Beach as the site of its third location in Virginia.

Topgolf Virginia Beach will be located at I-264 and Newtown Road, off of Greenwich Road, a few miles from the city’s central business district. It will be a 65,000-square-foot facility, with up to 3,000 square feet of private event space and 102 climate-controlled hitting bays.

Illinois-based ARCO/Murray has been selected to construct the facility. Groundbreaking is scheduled for this month, and Topgolf expects to open the new location in fall 2015.

In a statement, the golf entertainment company said it plans to invest $29.9 million in Virginia Beach during the next three years. Each of Topgolf’s locations has 450 full-time and part-time employees. The facilities typically serve as anchor tenants, attracting other franchises to retail centers. Topgolf expects the Virginia Beach facility to generate $264.5 million in economic activity over a 10-year period.

“Virginia Beach is an ideal location for Topgolf,” Zach Shor, Topgolf’s director of real estate, said in a statement. “The tourism industry is booming, and the local business economy is also very strong, with more than 20 international companies headquartered here. It’s just a great place to live and work, and we are thrilled for the opportunity to offer residents another option for entertainment.” Shor estimated that Topgolf Virginia Beach will attract approximately 450,000 visitors in its first year of operation.

Topgolf was founded in 2000 and opened its first U.S. location in Alexandria. A facility in Loudon County, Topgolf Dulles, is expected to open next April.
