The Cleveland offices of Turner Construction Co. and URS have been tapped as the design-build team for the Cleveland Medical Mart & Convention Center. Turner will serve as the design-build contractor on the project, while URS will handle the role of architect of record. LNM Architects is the design architect.
Slated for completion in 2013, the Cleveland MMCC is billed as a comprehensive marketplace for the medical and healthcare industries. It will house approximately 120,000 square feet of permanent showrooms for medical manufacturers and service providers, with rooms focused on cardiology, surgery, obstetrics, imaging, orthopedics, sterilization, healthcare furnishings, patient care, healthcare IT and medical devices.
The facility will also feature 300,000 square feet of exhibit space along with 100,000 square feet of meeting rooms.
“These two firms combine a strong Cleveland-area presence and experience with a broad international resume to bring together the very best in the business,” Trade show and property management firm Merchandise Mart Properties’ senior vice president Mark Falanga said when announcing the news. “Turner Construction has helped design and build much of the current Cleveland landscape and URS brings unmatched worldwide and government contractor experience across a wide spectrum of building projects to its role as the architect of record.”
Turner built its first Cleveland project, Erieview Tower, in 1962. It has subsequently built the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum as well as the 63-story Key Tower.
