tvsdesign Breaks Ground on Sizeable Campus in Charlotte

An Atlanta architectural firm is designing a sizeable campus with sustainable features in a Charlotte suburb for a financial firm.

LPL Financial celebrated the groundbreaking of its new regional headquarters, a two-building, 450,000-square-foot campus in the master planned development of Kingsley, located in the Charlotte, N.C. suburb of Fort Mill.

The 27.9-acre campus is being designed and built by tvsdesign, and will bring together more than 1,000 Charlotte-area employees and prepare LPL Financial for anticipated growth in the Southeast.

“LPL looks forward to continuing our growth in the Carolinas,” Mark Casady, LPL Financial’s chairman & CEO, said in a company statement. “We want to create a workplace that will promote employees’ well-being and that will be a place they are proud of and excited to come to every day. By being an employer of choice to the top talent in our industry, we can continue to be the leading service provider to our clients.”

The design of the campus will make use of sustainable features including the use of local and recycled materials, electric vehicle charging stations, tree preservation around the buildings, bicycle storage and net-zero water efficiency techniques.

Additionally, based on input by employees of the financial firm, the campus will include ergonomic workspaces, outdoor meeting areas, an on-site eatery, a fitness center and a health clinic.

LPL Financial’s San Diego office is believed to be the largest net-zero energy commercial office building in the United States and its new North Carolina campus is expected to rival that.

The project’s planning strategy calls for elevator and stair cores separated from office areas in order to maximize usable interior space and daylight, reducing energy costs and making outdoor views available to nearly all employees. Additionally, glass stair enclosures will offer sweeping views of campus greenways and encourage employees to take the stairs and interact across building locations.

The project will pursue LEED certification and is expected to be completed in 2016.

The LPL Financial campus expands tvsdesign’s Charlotte portfolio, which includes more than 5.5 million square feet of corporate campuses for companies such as Carillon, IBM, Nations Bank and TIAA-CREF.
