U.S. Solar Firm to Enter Indian Market

Clear Skies Solar Inc. had signed a letter of intent worth $20 million with Power Cube, a company located in Utter Pradesh, India, it has reported. The firms plan to develop and construct the first of several solar energy projects in India. This project is Clear Skies Solar’s first international move. The firm will design and build a multi-megawatt solar power system that will supply power to a steel mill and support the community’s energy grid system. International projects hold special challenges for U.S. solar energy providers. These include identifying proper high voltage lines and the ownership of the property for the system to be installed.“India represents the first of many untapped markets that Clear Skies Solar plans to enter in 2008 and 2009,” Ezra Green, Clear Skies Chairman & CEO said in a statement.Recent news bears out his claim. According to the a March, 2008, report from the United News of India, the Indian government has decided that “any registered company, as project developer, will be eligible to set up solar power projects on build, own and operate basis. This is a part of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy demonstration program to support megawatt-size grid interactive solar power generation projects, up to a maximum capacity of 50 MW, in the country.”
