Uptown Charlotte Boutique Hotel Opens Doors
- Jun 13, 2017
The Ivey’s Hotel, a newly rebranded MRK Hotel Collection property, located in Uptown Charlotte, N.C., recently opened its doors. MRK Investments has committed to this multi-million-dollar project in the past two years to revitalize the historic space, which debuted in the early 1900s as the home of J.B. Ivey & Co. Department Store.
MRK acquired the first and second floors of the Ivey’s building from two different sellers in 2012 and 2013. The Ivey’s hotel is the third asset added to the MRK Hotel Collection, the other two properties being the Windsor Boutique Hotel in Asheville, N.C. and The Marlin Hotel in Miami.
Located at 127 N. Tyron St., the hotel is across the street from the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and Bank of America Headquarter and in close proximity to all the city’s top destinations and restaurants. The Ivey’s Hotel features 42 luxury guestrooms, encompasses approximately 38,000 square feet of the historic Ivey’s building. All guest rooms are located on the second floor and the remaining space is dedicated to residences and retail.
Art Deco and European-inspired details
The asset features a cocktail lounge, a 1,000-square-foot private meeting and event space, a library lounge and a 24-hour state-of-the-art fitness center. The hotel is also home to two innovative food and beverage concepts: Sophia’s Lounge and 5Church Charlotte. Ivey’s rooms are decorated with an eclectic mix of antiques and modern European-inspired details and each room looks different than the other. Room options include Superior Atrium, City View, Executive Suites and the only Balcony Suites in the city that overlook Tryon Street. The rooms are equipped with the ultimate gadgets and technologies, including Sony 4K Televisions, Bose Sound Systems, iHome docking stations and Lutron Lighting Technology.
“It is rewarding to revitalize the character of these historic buildings. There is a certain warmth that cannot be replicated,” said Brett Krueger, principal & vice president of MRK, in a prepared statement. “Inspired by the sophistication of the Ivey’s Department store, we added our own Art Deco and European flair to create a modern, boutique experience.“
