An innovative project meant to provide health and education services and workforce opportunities for Minneapolis residents will open at 800 W. Broadway in the summer of 2016. The center was designed by Sherman Associates and will break ground in April 2015.

According to a news release, tenants at the West Broadway Education and Career Center will include the North Minneapolis WorkForce Center – part of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) – as well as the Minneapolis Public Schools, the Minneapolis Community & Technical College and the North Point Health and Wellness Center. A retail component is also planned for the new facility, but no tenant has been selected yet.

“The West Broadway Education and Career Center is a unique and innovative strategy that will put workforce, health and education services under the same roof,” said Jeremy Hanson Willis, deputy commissioner at the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. “This facility will be a community gathering place that helps Minneapolis residents get the support they need for fulfilling careers.”

According to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, local developer George Sherman of Sherman Associates plans to invest $3.1 million to redevelop the 48,000-square-foot former automobile dealership at 800 W. Broadway. A public meeting will be held on March 31st to provide the local community with information related to the project.
