  • 175K Jobs Added in January; Lending Standards Easing; Service Sector Still Growing

    The U.S. private sector created 175,000 jobs in January, with the largest number created by small businesses. More domestic banks are easing their lending standards on a variety of business and consumer loans during the last three months. And the Institute for Supply Management said that its non-manufacturing index was up 1 percentage point to 54 percent in January, compared with December.

  • Tapering Will Proceed

    U.S. private employers created 238,000 jobs in December, which was more than expected. And the Federal Open Market Committee released the minutes of its Dec. 17-18 meeting, which confirmed that the tapering of bond-buying was going to proceed in January.
